How does Alteril promote good hygiene, you may be wondering? Let me just explain what sleep hygiene is for starters.

It basically is the way in which one controls the behavior as well as the environment that influence sleep.

A lot of people all over the world have issues sleeping properly, and this can be caused by a number of issues such as stress to sleep habits to medication to suffering from insomnia.

Through this article, you are going to learn how to encourage great sleeping hygiene in your life so that you are able to create an environment that allows you to sleep better.

I have noticed that sleeping well sometimes can be established with a routine that the body gets into. As boring as it may be, but teaching your body to sleep at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning that give the body the balance that it needs. This can be especially challenging during the weekend, but it is definitely worth a try.

You can start by going to bed when you start feeling tired. As your body adjusts to this routine, you will realize that your body will start to feel tired around the same time. What also helps is doing a light activity before bed, something relaxing like listening to music or reading.

Here are more guidelines to encourage that great night sleep:

  • Be careful what you eat before bed as some foods encourage you to stay awake, like light chicken or turkey
  • Avoid coffee or caffeinated drinks after dinner, they may make it difficult for you to sleep
  • Try to avoid heavy meals 3 hours before you are set to go to bed. Also, try to exercise earlier in the day than later as it can affect the quality of your sleep.
  • Deal with whatever is stressing you in your life, whether it be money, relationships or career.
  • Your bedroom should be inviting, comfortable, cool and dark.

These tips will go a long way in ensuring that you have a great sleep. Keep in mind that there will be days where you just do not manage to sleep, and for those days, stay away from sleeping pills.

You will save yourself of having to go through side effects and a possible overdose. If you need extra help getting a beautiful sleep, Alteril is the safe and effective option to take.

Try Alteril, because it simply works and it is all natural, and you will definitely refreshed when you get up.

All About Narcolepsy

One of the most misunderstood sleep disorders, people suffering from narcolepsy experience overwhelming desires to sleep during the day. It can be a dangerous condition, because the narcoleptic might fall asleep while driving or operating a potentially dangerous machine.

Narcolepsy is caused by a brain dysfunction: a lack of receptors for hypocretin (a neurotoxin responsible for regulating sleep and waking – the body clock). No one knows how or why this dysfunction occurs.

If you have narcolepsy, you may suddenly fall asleep during the day, no matter what you’re doing. You might be talking to someone, then fall asleep mid-sentence. Narcoleptics often experience vivid hallucinations upon falling asleep.

They also commonly experience sleep paralysis. During REM sleep (when we dream), our body paralyses itself so we don’t act out our dreams. However, in sleep paralysis, this mechanism doesn’t shut off when you wake up, so you find yourself awake but unable to move.

Narcoleptics might also suddenly lose muscle tone when surprised or upset (causing them to collapse).

Narcolepsy runs in the family and most commonly occurs during young childhood. Many Narcoleptic children never have an episode in their adult life.

While it’s impossible to cure Narcolepsy, it can be effectively treated. The first step is correct diagnosis – as many early symptoms of narcolepsy are similar to other common sleep disorders. If you think you might have Narcolepsy, see your doctor, who will recommend you to a local sleep disorder clinic.

Herbal sleep remedies have proven beneficial in helping narcoleptics. Behavioural changes such as cutting out caffeine, nicotine and alcohol (especially in the evening), and exercising regularly help to fight the onset of narcolepsy. You can also schedule short naps or one long nap (20-40 minutes) during the day. This might help keep your narcolepsy in check.

No one is quite sure how Narcolepsy occurs and how to cure it completely. If you or someone you know suffers from Narcolepsy, it’s important you take proper safety precautions and have a plan in case an episode occurs in a dangerous place. Even though Narcolepsy can’t be completely cured, proper management will ensure a happy, healthy life.

The Best Stop Snoring Exercise Program

Snoring, also known as sleep apnea, is a condition that is mostly common to overweight people. It is largely caused by a blockage to the airways. This blockage can be caused by the over-relaxing of the muscles of the tongue and throat which causes these muscles to press or “sleep” on each other. When this happens, the airways get blocked or thinned out.

Air which should have a natural passage through the airways will have to force its way through causing a frictional vibration which in turns causes the noise known as snoring.
Snoring may also be caused by blockage to the airways because of stuffed up airways due to cold allergy during the cold season. In this case, instead of the over-relaxing of the muscles of the tongue and throat, a partial to complete blockage is caused by mucus formed by allergens and bacteria.

The severity of snoring differs from person to person. While some people only snore fairly; some others are very heavy snorers. The heavier you snore, the more the likelihood of depriving other people around you of rest and the less likely you are to feel refreshed when you wake up in the morning. This can be due to the vibrations of your airways which causes a mental stress or the fact that you had to wake up severally in the night to catch some breath. People who snore because they are overweight tend to snore more heavily.

In cases of snoring due to stuffed up airways because of cold allergies, administration of anti-allergen drugs and cold tablets can help the snorer get a clearer airway. Mentholated rub, humidifier, saline sprays and vaporizers can also be used to clear the airways for better breathing and less snoring. However, for people who snore because they are overweight, there are exercises to completely stop snoring that could help.

Exercises to Completely Stop Snoring

While there are drugs and products meant to help people to stop snoring, they are more of invasive and only last temporarily. More often than not, these products tend to aggravate the situation rather than provide a solution. Instead of these invasive methods, a less invasive way is to get involved in exercises to completely stop snoring.

Strengthening the Throat – This is an exercise that is practiced by singers. It is a voice training exercise but it can help greatly for stopping snoring. Try saying La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la for at least five times over. As you are projecting forth each La sound, hold your breath for three seconds while focusing on working your throat and neck muscles. You can bring “Sister’s Act” to mind right now. After the La session, you should go on by saying Ka-Ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka for five times over too.

The Ka sound works on the muscles of the throat in a pretty much different way than the La sound. They however both help to strengthen the muscles. Follow on with the Ma sound and then the Ba sound, each time, holding your breath on each syllable for about three seconds before the next sound.

Try this exercise at least twice a day after doing a mild exercise of jogging or running for about 15 minutes. You will notice a significant change in the way you breathe at night.

Solutions to bedwetting problems

Bedwetting is also termed as “Nocturnal Enuresis”. Bedwetting is present commonly among children and some teenagers may also have this problem. One has to first find out the reason that lies behind this problem if one needs to stop bed wetting.

Causes of Bed wetting:

The following might be one of the causes for bed wetting:

1. Physical problem

2. Psychological or emotional problem

3. Common habit.

Physical problems:

This may be due to any kidney or bladder problem. Some abnormal nervous problem or the presence of certain diseases etc. can also lead to bedwetting. These problems can be medically treated by medicines after consulting a physician.

Psychological or emotional problems:

If there are no physical problems, then look out for any psychological problems. Fear, stress, tension and anxiety can cause bed wetting in children. This can be treated by consulting a psychologist. He will assist you in tracing out the problem.

Common habit:

Some children are very lazy and this laziness will develop poor urination habits as they ignore the stimuli that causes urination during the day time. In course of time they will not be even aware that their bladder is full. This can be overcome by keeping an eye on the child’s urination habits. Assist them in solving this and gradually these children will get rid of this problem. Bed wetting at night can also be prevented by adopting some techniques.

It is found that genetics also contribute to this problem. Researchers have proved that the parents of those children who have bedwetting problems have had this problem in their childhood.

Bed wetting solutions:

There are some remedies for bed wetting solutions. Avoid giving excess fluid items or water to children before going to bed. Make the child urinate before going to bed. Parents can go for bedwetting alarms in addition to using pads or materials that absorbs the liquid. The alarm will produce an alerting sound at the very sign of urination. Take note of the time; so that from the next day onwards approximately at the same time, the parents can wake the child and make him urinate. This repeated practice will gradually make the child wake up at that time and he will develop the habit of stopping bedwetting at night. Be caring and loving to these children. Never punish them for bedwetting. Even after practicing this for a continuous period of two to three months the child does not stop bedwetting; then take him to a doctor. The bedwetting alarms can be used by people of any age. It is designed in such a way that it can be easily removed and it can be clipped to the clothes that you wear in the night. Grownups who have this problem can use liquid absorbent material for sleeping.

6 Simple Tips for Curing Insomnia

There are many reasons you could be struggling to sleep at night. If you’re suffering from insomnia, you may think you’ve tried everything, but have you tried all these potential solutions?

Stop taking naps: The longer you stay awake, the more you want to go to sleep at the end of the day – this is called “sleep drive”. When you take a nap, you lose a bit of your sleep drive while gaining very little valuable deep sleep. Napping throughout the day decreases your likelihood of feeling sleepy at night.

Regular Exercise: exercising regularly burns off excess energy, which will help you fall asleep more quickly and sleep much deeper at night. Exercise can also help alleviate symptoms of medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease, which can also negatively affect your ability to sleep.

However, avoid exercising less than four hours before bedtime. If you exercise too close to bedtime your body is still storing that energy and you will find yourself wide awake.

Create a regular bedtime: This won’t work for shift workers, but if possible, set yourself a regular sleep time. Get up and go to bed at the same time every day, and that includes the weekend. This helps your body get used to a regular rhythm.

Don’t toss and turn: if you find yourself unable to fall asleep after 20 minutes or so, don’t lie there and feel frustrated. Instead, get up and perform some kind of mundane activity – many sleep experts recommend accounting. You could read an easy book, flick through a magazine, or simply lie somewhere else until you feel tired. Do this for no longer than 10 minutes, then come back and try to sleep again.

De-Clutter your bedroom: in our modern lives we often use our bedrooms as an entertainment hub, office or storage space. Keep your bedroom strictly for sleeping and move these activities to other areas of the house.

Try Herbal Sleeping Pills: unlike prescription sleeping pills, most herbal medicines aren’t addictive and have minimal side-effects. They contain natural ingredients like chamomile and ylang ylang, which have been used to cure insomnia for centuries.

Sleep Paralysis Symptoms

Sleep paralysis is a state of awareness that a person enters before falling asleep or before waking. Shortly before entering the sleeping state your mind paralyzes the body from 3 seconds to a few minutes. Also, during REM sleep, our body is paralyzed entirely so that we don?t act out our dreams and ?fall off trees?. There are 2 different entering points for sleep paralysis.

Hypnagogic or Predormital Sleep Paralysis

Hypnagogic sleep paralysis occurs when a person tries to fall asleep. After relaxing all muscles and about to enter the ?sleep state? that person becomes aware that he or she is paralyzed.

Hypnopompic or Postdormital Sleep Paralysis

Hypnopompic sleep paralysis occurs after a person?s REMs. Often occurring after lucid dreaming, a person becomes aware that he or she is paralyzed before leaving the REM state. This can cause numerous things from hearing seeing strange things to a ?chocking sensation?.

There are numerous symptoms pointing to sleep paralysis. This page will confirm whether or not you have or might have sleep paralysis.

The first and most obvious symptom of sleep paralysis is having the sensation of being paralyzed without being able to wake yourself up. Often times people wake up and discard it as being some crazy dream without realizing that they in fact were paralyzed. A sleep paralysis episode may last anywhere from 5 seconds to 3 minutes, maybe even longer if you fail to exit properly. During the longer episodes you gain consciousness of what?s going on yet your senses aren?t 100% clear; your eyes can be blurred a little, your hearing is altered, and it still feels to some degree like a ?dream?.

The 3 most common symptoms of sleep paralysis are 1) consciousness of what?s going on, 2) realization of the paralyzed state, 3) extreme horror.

It?s difficult to control sleep paralysis because of the intensity of the horror that sleep paralysis sufferers experience is unbearable. In fact, when undergoing sleep paralysis, the person does in fact think that he or she is going to die. Of course, only after you know about sleep paralysis and the causes of sleep paralysis that you can actually try to treat sleep paralysis.

Here?s a list of other reported sleep paralysis symptoms:

* Buzzing noise in your ears

* Seeing the old hag, cartoon characters, and dream objects come to life in their room

* Shifting gravity

* Sensation of something pressuring you

* Levitation

* Inability to speak/call out for help

* Choking sensation

Sleep paralysis contributed to many of the night stories ancient cultures spread ranging from the old hag to demons, the devil, and other ?evil? religious figures like witches. We have our own share of alien abduction stories many of which begin with ?suddenly I couldn?t move?. Now you know that aliens aren?t probing you ? during a sleep paralysis episode superstitious religious people will see demons, alien believers will see aliens, and others will see cartoon characters, people, strange animals, and pretty much anything that your mind can come up with. Long Term Effects of Sleep Deprivation

Sleep deprivation is a commonplace occurrence in modern culture. Every day there seems to be twice as much work and half as much time to complete it in.

After periods of extended wakefulness or reduced sleep neurons may begin to malfunction, visibly effecting a person’s behavior. Some organs, such as muscles, are able to regenerate even when a person is not sleeping so long as they are resting. This could involve lying awake but relaxed within a quite environment. However, in sleep deprived subjects there is no activity within this region.

Effects of sleep deprivation

The effects of this inactivity can be observed by the slurred speech in subjects who have gone for prolonged periods with no sleep.

Even severely sleep deprived people are still able to perform to some degree on a verbal learning test. This implies that some other area of the brain must become active to compensate for the loss of temporal lobe functioning. In fact, activity can be seen in the parietal lobe that is not present during verbal learning tests using rested subjects.

Greater activity within this region corresponded to better performance by subjects in research studies. Still, sleep deprived people do not perform as well on these tests as do fully rested subjects.

One possible reason for the poorer performance after missing sleep, aside from unregenerated neurons, could be the fact that since the parietal lobe is not usually used to performing tasks such as these it is not as adept at carrying them out. Judgment, impulse control, attention, and visual association have all been related to this region of the cerebral cortex. If the neurons composing the I-function become too taxed then the picture in the head that the I-function produces may be more dissimilar from reality than usual. The neurons, under pressure to continue functioning but unable to perform optimally, create an image useful enough for a person to see most of his or her surroundings.

Metabolic activity in the prefrontal cortex can drop as much as eleven percent after a person has missed sleep for only twenty four hours. As a person loses more sleep or continues to receive less-than-adequate amounts of sleep the neurons become even more taxed and the I-function may begin to generate even less coherent images possibly resulting in temporary insanity.

Another piece of evidence supporting the location of the I-function is that mammals have REM sleep whereas cold-blooded animals do not and mammals have a neocortex, located within the prefrontal cortex, while cold-blooded animals do not. REM sleep stimulates areas of the brain used for learning and memory. When a person is taught a new skill his or her performance does not improve until he or she receives at least eight hours of sleep. Without them new synapses may not be able to be formed, thus limiting the amount of information a sleep-deprived individual can maintain.

One of the possible side effects of a continued lack of sleep is death. Usually this is the result of the fact that the immune system is weakened without sleep. The body also decreases the amount of growth hormone produced. The ability of the body to metabolize sugar declines, turning sugar into fat. Since different regions of the brain rest during different stages of the sleep cycle, sleep cannot be cut short. In fact, if the brain does not receive a break it will soon begin to shut down for periods of microsleep. This is essentially several seconds of actual sleep; delta waves that interrupt the regular EEG of an awake person thereby impairing his or her continuity of cognitive function.
